Expanded Seattle Public Library Hours

Seattle Central Library. Source: Wikipedia

In a recent blog post, The Seattle Public Library announced it will expand hours at nine branches, ensuring all locations, except the University Branch, are open at least six days a week. Thirteen locations, including the Northeast and Northgate branches, will now operate seven days a week, with additional morning hours added at both branches to better serve patrons. The University Branch will close on January 29 for a major seismic retrofit and modernization, with improvements like air conditioning, study rooms, and an elevator expected upon reopening in late 2026. The expanded schedules aim to provide consistent access to library services throughout 2025.

Last weekend, a major Link light rail service disruption affected downtown Seattle as crews worked to install overhead power lines connecting the 1 Line with the future Eastside 2 Line, which is scheduled to open next winter. The closure between Westlake and SODO stations required shuttles to transport passengers and caused changes in train frequencies outside the affected area. This was the first in a series of planned service interruptions, with additional closures scheduled for January 17-19, February 1-2, and February 14-16 as reported by the Seattle Times. These efforts will ultimately double regional train capacity and improve connectivity between Seattle and the Eastside, though passengers should prepare for further temporary disruptions in the coming weeks.
